2022 NCAA DIII Men’s Basketball Semifinal and Championship Information

Wabash and Elmhurst meet in the second semifinal of the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Little Giants advance in their tournament pool with wins over Berry (91-79), Emory (87-86), Williams (73-59) and Illinois Wesleyan (81-75). The Little Giants are on a school-record 24-game winning streak, eclipsing the 1981-82 Wabash basketball team’s 19-game winning streak. This 19-game streak ended with the Little Giants winning the 1982 NCAA DIII National Championship.

Wabash (28-3) is averaging 89.8 points per game, fifth best among Division III programs. The Little Giants’ 51.6 field goal percentage is just behind Yeshiva’s 53 percent. Wabash is third in the nation in three-point field goal shooting, hitting 40.3% of his attempts from beyond the arc.

jack davidson, recently named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America Team and CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team, leads Wabash and ranks third in the nation in averaging 25.7 points per game. The all-time leading scorer in basketball history Wabash with 2,433 points brings a full game to the field with 5.9 rebounds and four assists per game. He leads the nation in three-point field goal percentage (49.0%), free throws made (200) and total three-point field goals (122).

Tyler Watson adds an average of 16 points per game to Wabash’s offensive mix. He is averaging 5.4 assists and rebounds per game for the Little Giants. Watson earned D3hoops.com All-Region 7 honors and was also selected by CoSIDA Academic All-America. He set a Wabash single-game record earlier this year by dishing out 14 assists in a win over Hiram. Kellen Schreiber shooting 68.7 percent from the field, the fifth-best shooting percentage among Division III men’s basketball players this season. Schreiber is averaging 15.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

Junior Ahmoni Jones is the fourth starter with a double-digit average for Wabash at 14 points per game. He is the Little Giants’ leading rebounder, collecting 6.2 carroms per game. Jones is shooting 46% from the field and 38.4% from three points.

Elmhurst (26-6) won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament to earn the league’s automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays beat Washington and Jefferson (95-70), Pomona-Pitzer (76-70), Calvin (79-77) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (87-84 in overtime) to advance to Friday’s semifinal against Wabash. Elmhurst is led by D3hoops.com and NABC First Team All-Region selection Jake Rhode. The senior guard is averaging 17.6 points per game. He holds the Bluejays all-time assists record with 505 and has scored 2,098 points in his career.

Lavon Thomas averages 12.2 points per contest. Wesley Hooker is adding an average of 11.5 points per game to the offensive mix. Hooker and Jonathan Zapinski share top rebounding honors with each player averaging 5.4 boards per game.

The winner of Friday’s second semifinal will face the winner of the first semifinal between Randolph-Macon and Marietta at 5 p.m. in Saturday’s NCAA DIII championship game.
